Our 230 acre working farm has been owned by the family for over 100 years (5 generations!). Traditional farming methods, such as organic beef and sheep, combined with countryside stewardship help maintain the 'older countryside', with rolling pastures, thick hedgerows and banks and lush green fields. Recently 11.4 hectares of land have been planted to a mixture of broad leafed trees, firs and woodland shrubs. Another pond has been excavated making use of the natural springs and encouraging water fowl.

Mark and Robert are the current managers. Not only do we have over 100 cattle and approximately 400 store lambs, we also have free range hens (lovely eggs!!), a horse, dogs, cats and, of course, our splendid ducks!

The farm trail provides an ideal opportunity to explore previously undiscovered areas of Devon. Having worked closely with the Devon Wildlfe Trust, Bason Farm can provide maps which will guide you to areas of beautiful woodland and riverside meadows, a valuable refuge for wildlife. The wildflower rich wetlands are known locally as Culm grassland and recognised by the Devon Wildlife Trust as a County Wildlife Site.

The farm is bordered by the River Waldon, a tributary of the Torridge, where our fishing rights allow guests to enjoy a spot of brown trout fishing along its banks. Occasionally an escapee rainbow from a neighbouring fish farm can also be found! With help from the Westcountry Rivers Trust, we have undertaken riverbank coppicing, another contributory factor for wildlife conservation. Indeed local artists spend many hours hoping to capture a glimpse of an otter or heron or kingfisher beside the peaceful banks of the river. Please click here for directions.
